with that said 4.11's wouldnt be THAT bad at 65 but it would be reving higher than stock. On the flip side tons of lo range on the trails.
My 94 GMC Z71 with a 350/5.7L cruises at <2000RPM. Ditto for my Titan with a 5.7L, actually that one cruises at around 1500RPM. My V6s have all cruised at lower RPMs than the Rover. The Rover is actually not too loud at high speed, I've just never driven a vehicle so revved on the HWY and didn't have anyone to ask until now. Thanks for the feedback. I'll cruise a little more at peace now.

With your low miles and short distances, just about any tire will do Slang. I understand buying those. And a spare is not a major factor either.

The wheel bearings are not hard to do, just messy. You just do not need them to go into self-destruct mode while driving. They will weld themselves to the stub axle and that is a mess to deal with.

You are having fun with it now aren't you.

I know of a pristine DII if you are interested.

Yea you're talking about much larger engines as well. Vehicles with compareable HP/torque etc.

Mountain Goat - Yes stock rover gears are 3.54

I had a 86 Volvo 240 DL that had a 164 cubic inch 135 hp in-line 4 cylinder that got 40 MPH out of each gear and it was a 4 speed automatic with no tach.

Stomp the gas and hold it, 1st got up to 40, 2nd up to 80, third went way over 100mph and then it shifted into high gear. It would outdo my 73 Mustang 5.0 and my 79 280ZX with no problems. I believe it was a matter of excellent gearing. Plus the MPG was excellent. That was a fun car.
