Default Awning Direct Gutter Mount

I really have no need for a roof rack on my Disco, but I would like to mount an awning to the gutter if possible. Does anyone have any experience doing something like this, perhaps with something like the product linked below (perhaps using 2 or 3 of them along the length of the awning)? I'm a little bit worried about bending the gutter over by mounting the awning directly to it, but it's not terribly heavy (40-50 lbs at most)...does anyone know if this would be OK?

I think a roof awning only mounted to feet in one gutter is going to apply a lot of torque. The gutter is capable of supporting a lot of weight when evenly distributed and spead between each side.
The force I'm talking about would be the same as if you clamped a Vise Grips on the gutter and pulled down.

I wouldn't do it for the same reasons mentioned by fish. One sided you are likely to bend or worse crack completely the gutter. These trucks are now 20+ years old and the gutters aren't like they were when new.

If you install roof rack rails like yakima or thule you can attach the awning to that.

Yeah, this is what I figured - I won't try it...I was just wondering if anyone had. Thanks.

You might be able to make something that will work. Here is a light bar I have been making for mine because I didnt want to spend the cash on a roof rack I didnt need. But I certainly wouldnt mount anything to just one side. You could probably get away with making your own bars in the style of the Thule cross bars.
