Default Axle Carrier Question

I have a broken axle shaft on my RRC. I'm posting this here because it's the later Disco axle not the 10 spline. Or so I'm told. I haven't opened it up yet. My problem is that the snapped off end won't come out of the tube. I tried a along magnet with no luck. Since I don't know the severity of the brake I wouldn't mind checking it out and cleaning it all up anyway.

My question is can I simply unbolt the assembly from the axle housing? Or will I have to disturb the bearings/preload? I'm reading the manual and it's not forthcoming with information about pulling it out and putting the same parts right back in.

Finally I'm assuming clean with RTV sealant is ok? I don't see a gasket in place now.

When I replaced my 10 spline with 24 spline I wanted to keep the old axle assembly, but it's too heavy and awkward to move assembled. So I unbolted the swivel ***** and unbolted the diff so that I could put it all in my shed. The swivel housings, brakes, swivel *****, cv joints, axle, etc all complete are still pretty heavy though. I did have the calipers off because I wanted to swap them onto the new axle.

Never mind. You're talking about rear.

Just pull the good shaft too and you should be able to unbolt the diff. Rear is much easier.

Awesome guys thank you very much. Pulled the other side out confirmed the 24 spline axle. Good deal.

Any bright ideas on how to get that out? Pliers and whacking the housing art working..dammit

Never mind. I realized I'm looking at the other end of it thru the other side. Took some persuasion but came out

If you flip it around, you can probably get a punch past the cross pin and drive it out from the other side.

Drill it and use a easy out to make a handle to pull on. Or drill it and tap the hole thread a bolt in and use that as a handle.

I've always gotten them out with a strong magnet

You should be able to tap it through from the other side.

Fish you mentioned in another thread that it's not hard to set up a diff in the garage with about 100 bucks worth of tools.

I'm thinking I have some nice bearing noise.
