I'm about to replace my tstat and drain my coolant system to get to my valve cover gasket, but my question is whats the best way to bleed the coolant system after putting it all back together? I have a 1997 v8 4.0 disco, expansion tank, no t fitting with the bleed screw. things ive heard :
drill a hole in 12 o clock position on new tstat
elevate front of truck
using a funnel in the radiator fill plug

A) an easy and cleaner way to drain is to stick a 3/8" OD tube into the radiator and siphon out the bulk of the coolant into the container of your choosing rather than all over the area in which you are working.
B)
1. yes, park up hill
2. best t-stats to use have the 'jiggle pin' 3.
- fill it
- start truck
- turn heat on high
- rev engine to 2500 and maintain for 30 seconds
- check fill
- drive 2 miles
- check fill
- drink beer

Can't recall seeing this mentioned in any of the "bleeding" posts...
https://www.roverparts.com/resources...t-discovery-1/
the lower of two bolts on the driver's side of the water pump.
drains 85-90%
anyone tried this?
