The engine doesn't seem to be any noisier than before except the exhaust seems to be louder than it did. exhaust escaping where the flange and manifold meet. Also found a crack below the flange in one of the welds but doesn't seem to be leaking there.

What I thought was a crack may just be where the weld is rolled over.

The linkage is pretty corroded. Gonna hit it with PB Blaster and see what happens...

Linkage is not the problem the shifter is seized

Some of the the complaints you have are starting to add up, with still running hot , loud exhaust leak
Running crappy can't go fast sounds like you melted a cat it may have been part clogged and you got so hot it went poo poo I have seen this in other vehicles

just my 2 cents

If you have an IR thermometer, the cats should be about same temp. Obviously a melted one will be much hotter.

This is turning out to be an expensive trip to the beach...

Check engine light on?

About the sand...... your driving a heavy vehicle (nearly 2 1/2 - 3 tons loaded) with a short wheel base which concentrates that weight, on skinny tires, open diffs, highway gearing and who's motor has at best 182 ponies with street pattern lugged tires......let's be realistic. Don't knock it, learn it.

I split my expansion tank in the sand trying to compete with my brothers FJ in the same type of conditions except we where trying to climb a long hill trail. He had no problem, I did not make it half way. This was my introduction into what a Disco can and cannot do in street cloths.

I had almost the same amount of miles as you do. I had to replace all my shells after that "fun" in the sand.

Drop your oil pan, look at the pick-up screen. You've probably collected every bit of left over RTV ever used on your truck.

Don't forget, overheating effects both the oil cooler and the transmission cooler temp wise. I'm not saying this is now effecting your truck but you may want to check them. At the least change your oil filter and lets not forget to check the tranny fluid for color and amount.

Good luck.

Check engine light has been in got bad O2 sensor on top o now everything else. Tire are 275/60/17 and have a wide foot print, dust help as much as I thought. The weight/short wheel base entered my mind as soon as I started to bury down.
I appreciate everyone's input!

This works for some people, just don't break the handle off tugging or beating on it

Like I said there is a large steel crossbar/ crosspin, mine was rusted and completely seized into the aluminum case, all the lube in the world would never have moved it, had to remove shifter and beat it apart with soft hammer hope this is not you but you live in salt air environment in fla

Zoomed in on the pic and am assuming Tom is right, looks pretty corroded. Hit it hard and heavy with PB and praying for the best but expecting the worst....
