Why on earth the high temp stuff? Because it's the same material? I'm definitely going for wheel paint, what its made for...

 

Well for me because it was cheaper. $5.99/can versus $6.99/can @ Harbor Freight. Plus my 20% employee discount and it was a no brainer. Paint my wheels with either one + clear coat = flat black wheels no matter how you look at it

 

The real test is what it looks like after it's been on there a while, then you will find out just how well it did.

My son bought some wheels from someone else that they painted, looked terrible, paint scrapped off on all 4 of them.

 

Looks good, I may just have do try that on my rims!

 

I just don't think youll get the same result from the high heat and the wheel paint. The high heat (which was originally called stovepipe paint..the pipes that ran from the heating stove up and out the house) is marketed with a barbecue on the label..so it's for that stuff. It's so flat that you have to like that look. Which I do, although I still think I'll use the wheel paint with primer when I get there even though my roof, hood scoop, grill and other bits will be high heat.

 

They're still holding up.

 

Paint is still there.

 

Instead of taking tires off or taping them off I had 4, 3" sections of vent pipe that I used to set just outside the rim on the tire. Thus being able to spray without cleaning tires after

 

I hit it with the pres washer today and the paint held up.

 

Looks good. I am gonna do mine but with PlastiDip. I've had the stuff to do it for a month but havent had the time. Glad you did it first so now I know it will look good! Thanks.
