Default brake fluid leak

Today, I noticed a fairly steady drip of brake fluid coming from what appears to be the back of the brake booster. Brake light came on for the first time as well. I'm torn between rebuilding the M/C or just buying a new one and be done with it. Is there anything in the brake booster that might be the source of the leak instead of the M/C?

Thanks,

Yesterday I replaced a leaking pressure reduction valve on my 96. It sits under the booster, and commonly leaks, according to Forum. Brake light probably due to low fluid level, as happened to me. Now I get to bleed the air out. Wish me luck!

There are 2 rubber grommets under the fluid tank that will go bad. But if your going that far I would just rebuild it and move on.

Well, the easiest way to check is unbolt the MS from the booster and look inside to see if there’s a pool of fluid at the bottom. But I’m confused how fluid could possibly drip from the BACK of the booster.

Is there any seepage from where the MS meets the booster?

Yes, It does appear to be leaking from the reservoir. At first glance I just saw drips from the bottom of the booster nearest the firewall. I've ordered a new M/C and hopefully that "fixes" it.
Thanks

Smile Brake problems resolved !

Hello,

About my Discovery 300Tdi (from may 1998) :
A few months ago there was a leak at the pump ; so my garagist replaced this and both rear wheel callipers (uneven brake power output).
But from now pression building up again normal, a brake hose began to leak at a bend ; so my garagist replaced at once all brake pipes by pliable copper pipe from the role ; this is a very cheap work and is also advised in many magazines and forums for Land Rovers.
About two months earlier my garagist replaced the conducts of the power steering fluid : they had become brittle and you could almost feel the liquid pouring through the tubes. Perhaps you,ll need to replace the brake hoses under high pression.

I have a deep interest in all the technics from my Disco, but working on engine and brakes, and some electricity is a job for my Landy-garagist.
Greetings,
PierroDisco (from Belgium)

Be very careful about purchasing a replacement Master Cylinder. I had a bunch of trouble with brake fluid leaks and bleeding brakes when I had mine replaced a few years back. I went through 3 Master Cylinders before I found onr that would work and last longer than a year. got them from British Atlantic so they should have been the right brand.

Thumbs up Good advice is always welcome !

Okay?

Thanks anyway for the advice.

My garagist replaced a year ago the leaking steering house buy the new fitted began also leaking after a few days. But while the equipment and the working hours were under guaranty, the garagist replaced the bad one by another new ; now no more leaking. Strange story (for the garagist) because he exclusively applies original equipment !

Greetings,
Pierrodisco (from Belgium)
