Default Brake Master Cylinder pull-apart-find

Hey guys,

I visited a 98' Disco at the graveyard today and found this in the back seat. Just sitting there. I guess the prev owner hoped to install it and never got to it or, well, that's why I'm here. Does this appear to be a new BMC? There was rainwater in the reservoir from where it sat under the front broken sunroof. It is missing a few parts/pieces but overall I wanted to know if I made a good investment on this purchase.
Thanks

Ooooh I don't know. You do know that if it's a cheap Chinese knockoff and not a Lucas (I don't see any identification, do you?) it will more than likely lock up your brakes when you may not want such a funky thing to occur, like for instance a random moment when cruising down the highway.... or pulling up to a stop sign and basically parking it right there. It's about the only way you'll ever see smoke coming from a D1's tires unless it's skidding sideways of course. Lucas/TRW is nearly 300 bills and worth the blood, sweat and tears you'll shed while purchasing but it will save your butt.....

It looks like you found a cheap-o / aftermarket Eurospare STC1284 BMC.
You can get a rebuild kit, but new this costs about $140.
Sorry, but I'd pass on using that bit (new or used) in my truck. I hope you didn't pay too much.

10-4. Appreciate the help. I’m not out any money since they do refunds. I’ll head over tomorrow and do that. I didn’t come out completely empty handed though. Picked up a never used spare wheel/tire off the door. It is in near perfect condition. I’ve been wanting to replace mine with one that was original, finally. I’ll post a pic tomorrow.

That master looks like it has been mounted previously as evidenced by the marks from bolts on the mounting boss. Not sure why it was mounted and removed but it is reason for concern.

On another note: the grommet seals between the alum body and the tank are probably worth what you paid for the master.
