It sounds like maybe your brake control unit may be doing things it shouldn't. A lot of people on here suggest pulling the fuse for that thing, and just going without ABS. That may be an option for you.

The ABS can have uncommanded activity when it is not warranted and the pedal will feel like it is pulsating and you don't have proper brake action.

If you pull the fuse, the problem cannot repeat. And you really don't need ABS anyway, especially when it acts up. When I first got mine, the seller threw in a 6 month warranty. The local LR dealer replaced my ABS ECU under that warranty for that same problem. When it repeated several months later, I opted to pull the fuse.

My ABS was working fine until I put the mud terrains on there. It goes off with very little effort I think due to the increased tire diameter.

Pull the fuse from the fuse box under the hood, it is the 30 amp ABS pump fuse.

In the tech section there is a "how to" read the ABS trouble code, IF you ABS light is now on all the time.

To properly fix this problem you will need to figure out what is wrong, could be a ABS wheel speed sensor, could be a bad ABS modulator.

I pulled my fuse 3 years ago, the only effect you will have besides no ABS is the ABS light will be on all the time.

Yikes, shame on you guys for giving the usual meathead refrain of just pull the fuse, they all do that. Well, they don't all do that and most of the really bad expensive problems are on the DIIs. It is an important safety feature - why not find out what is wrong with it? All you need is a paper clip and 10 minutes and you can read the codes and find out what is up. Could be a simple fix - in mine the air gap was too wide on two of the sensors and would cause that problem to appear. Just pushed them in after clearing the codes and now I antilock everywhere, just for fun cause I can now.

BTW your pedal didn't "lock up" that is just the normal antilock operation, the pump goes bzzzrrrappp and the pedal gets hard.

Take the ten minutes and find out what is really up. Pins 5 and 15 on the odb connector turn the key on two clicks and count the codes. Do a search, you will find the info on this forum. If you can't post again and I will email you the complete troubleshooting guide form the antilock manufacturer. Or you could search yourself, pretty easy to find.

good luck, fixit right

What do you mean, count the codes?

My typical driving does not need the anti-skid.

Yes, that's what I mean. It gives three digit flash codes through the abs light. To clear it, you pull the jumper you made with the paper clip while it is flashing.

Golly gee whiz. Do you count the actual flashes or what?
