Default Brakes!!!

Are finally done!!
I bought a set of slotted rotors and ceramic brake pads off of e-bay almost two months ago.
I then about a complete set of calipers from AutoZone.
The slotted rotors and ceramic brake pads were cheaper than solid rotors and semi metallic brake pads, so those are what I went with.

Also repacked the wheel bearings of course, and cheated on the rears.
See that little rubber seal on the inside of the stub axle?
Remove it.

Repack all of your wheel bearings as normal and then when you drive gear oil will get into the hub and lubricate the bearings, you will need to use RTV to seal the drive flange and not the paper gasket.
On the rear axle you will never need to grease your wheel bearings again, they can be left alone until you need to replace the rear rotors.

Total cost for parts was $500, rotors and pads were $250 shipped, calipers were $250 for all four, AutoZone had the best price.
I took the truck to a friends shop this morning and he and I knocked it out in about five hours, it took us over a hour just to bleed the brakes, they did not want to bleed for anything.
The truck now stops like, well, like a 4500lb brick.

You wanna talk about fun, bleeding the brakes was a chore and a half, could not get a solid pedal with the engine running to save our lives, even let them gravity bleed for 20min while we cleaned up tools and stuff.
I think my rubber brake hoses are shot, so those will be on order soon.
It stops fine but the brake pedal is not where I think it should be but yet I cant remember if thats how it was before. LOL!!!

Spike, I'm having the same issue after changing my master cylinder. Mine stops fine, too, but the pedal doesn't feel as solid as it did before the replacement. Please let us know how those rotors work out after you've used them awhile. I'd also love to know if the new brake hoses fixes your brake pedal problem. Thanks for the info.

It will be awhile before I replace my brake hoses, they were just added to the list.
My next purchase will hopefully be a snorkel, I should have the money to buy it sometime in September and then the brake hoses will be the very next thing.
In the mean time I am driving the truck for the week and then bleeding the brakes again, I am going to see if there is just a really stubborn air pocket trapped somewhere.
I am also going to replace the ABS pump fuse to see if that helps push out any air.
The last time I bled the brakes I did not drain them completely, I just did a flush.
