Default Can't read codes from our Discovery I OBD-II connector

All,
Trying to pull DTC codes from our 1997 Discovery I.
Has 170,000 miles.
Has a check engine light on.

I have pulled codes a few years ago with a code scanner which I can't access now as it is locked up in temp storage at a moving company.

I bought a code scanner at Autozone and I can't read the 1997 Discovery.
I can read a 2001 D2 with it.

I then bought a Autel code scanner and I can't read codes from the Discovery I and again I can read codes from the Discovery 2.

The Discovery 2 seems to have power at the OBD II connector as when I plug in both code scanners - the code scanners light up and start to read codes.

On the 1997 Discovery I - I plug in a code scanner - no power at the connector - code scanner does not light up.

I put the 2nd code scanner on - the Autel 509 and it has a 9 volt battery to power it and still could not get the scanner to link with the Discovery I.

Wondering if anyone has had this problem and is there a fuse that could be blown??

Or can the wiring at the OBD-2 connector be broken??

Usually code reading is never an issue for me.

Vexed..

Thanks.
I will check it

Satellite Fuse Box 2, fuse F3, 10A.

Loosen two thumb screws with dime on tan panel
Pop down bezel
(pops down where the driver's knees would be on USA model)

and Satellite Fuse box 2 is right there?
Sorry, have not been in there in about 4 years so need reminded.

I was poking around trying to get the transmission computer reset by jumping a few wires on the OBDII connector

I have that procedure written in the owner's manual
You can reset the WABCO computer and get codes out of it too.

But --

I probably shorted a power connection and blew that fuse.

So, tonite I will check.

You were dead on wiht that fuse you had told me to replace.
That 10A was bad.

Thanks!

well I was able to fire up the code reader.

The code reader synced with the Discovery I.

Said MIL is off.
Said NO CODES.

Yet my red "check engine" light is still on

And I tried two code scanners.
And tried to clear codes that it said it did not have.

My RED "Check engine" light is still on.

What else can fire up that red Check Engine light?

"Check Engine" or "Service Engine"? Service engine comes on to remind you to go to deaker for an emmissions chek. Red relay sized box under passenger kickpanel, unplug it.

RAVE electrical diagram for 97 shows that ECU or theft alarm would be wired so they could supply a ground to turn on the CEL or MIL.

Savannah,
I am in good hands with you.
. Thank you.
I'll take that relay out.
Maybe it is stuck.

First I will bang on the kick panel.

Here I thought that light went to an open collector on the ECU.

ha, figures it is a relay - and red too!

Wow, you may get me out of the woods with that trusty 1997 yet.

I was so so amazed it did not have codes.
My wife said the rover was stinking.

And, I figured I had burned up the cats with antifreeze.
Yet, no antifreeze consumption from the reservoir bottle.

Before the head gasket job - I was putting in a tall beer glass of water every week or so at 138,000 miles in 2009.

Then in April of 2012 the reservoir bottle cracked and I figure she overheated it and it was head gasket time again.

Alas - not using antifreeze and no DTC codes!!!
So such happy days for us.

At 170,000 now.

Thought I may meet Him New Years.
I was sick in the hospital.

Savannah,
So you are saying - even if I don't have DTC's that light is on to remind me to go to the dealer for a Major service?

Any way to turn it off?

IF I pull out that red relay - will I lose the DTC functinoality?

OR will the light simply now respond to DTC and not added dealer reminders?
