Really? Who uses CD's anymore? Mount it in a trash bin and buy yourself a modern head unit.

if your cd player powers on, the rest is easy. Discs do NOT need to be in the player at all.

Whilst wading you "discovered" the built in water level detector and the sound stopped.

If the CD player isn't working anyways why not just tear it apart and get your CDs out?

OK swapped changer for now and works fine

Now I did get the cart out of old changer easy

Remove top and bottom covers look to see if a disc is in reader, mine was not since I was not using it when it died

Be sure door is open

On the bottom at the back under cartridge there is a lever, slide it to the side and presto cartridge ejects

If there is a disc stuck in the reader I am unsure if it will eject, if I'd does you may need to mess with the disc stuck in there

I still need a dryer location for it

As a side note, my rover 1998, donor rover 1998 both did changers dated august 1999 wtf??.
