Check engine light on....
I looked up this and couldn't find what I wanted.....so i thought I would ask.
So when driving home today, the check engine light came on. Is there anything wrong with my rover (light doing it's job) or is there something I need to do to turn it off? As far as I can tell, it runs the same as it did before the light came on.

Take truck to auto parts store, like Auto Zone, Advance, etc. They will read codes for free and reset usually. If you are a serious DIY, and like instruments, look at posts about the Ultra gauge, which combines display and code reading functions.
When you get code numbers, come back here and post. Do not buy any products at the store based on their read of the codes.
You have a computer, so why not down load your own copy of the factory tech manual and owners manual, called the RAVE, it is listed below...
Are you the original owner? What repairs / maintenance has been done to your "flamin' ride"?
And yes, the light is doing its job, now it is your turn.

you can also consider buying an obd2 scanner for a $75-150... it will pay for itself pretty darn quickly and you can use it on your friends obd2 cars as well.
great troubleshooting tool, as well as useful for clearing the codes

I'll have to check into reading the codes...the only problem is there is not a auto parts store near by.
Yes, I have the RAVE manual...
No, I am not the original owner.
So far it is bone stock. The only thing I have done to it since I bought it a month ago is changing the oil and air filter, replacing some fuses, and repairing some minor rust. My to do list includes:
Brake fluid flush
New spark plugs + wires
Coolant flush
oops...forgot to add a few things. It has a new fuel pump, rear brake pads and rotors.

Without knowing you're shooting into the dark. You can do cat damage if it's O2 sensor related. If it's running fine doesn't sound like a mis-fire but, best to not take the chance till you know. Buy a scanner on-line if you don't have a parts store nearby.
I don't live IN Cedar Falls. I just live near. In fact there is a O' Reilly's Auto Parts in iowa falls that is closer.
