chevy g80 diffs in a disco 1

Default chevy g80 diffs in a disco 1

i was just wandering if ia could put a chevy g80 diff on my 1999 disco 1. its just alot cheaper to get than a detroit or arb.

Do you mean the entire axle, or just the diff? I doubt the diff alone is a bolt-in. The entire axle could be done, but how much time and money do you have to accomplish the swap?

i was just thinking the diff becuase its an everyday driver and i think swapping axles could take too long

You'd need to do some measuring and all. I doubt it'll fit only because noone's said anything about it yet(could be noone thought of it till now...). But, the LR diff is pretty stout from what I understand, and not too expensive to replace. Throwing a auto-locker isn't too bad either. If the g80 did fit, what is the benefit?

No it wont work, completely different. More common swap is toyota diffs cause they are 30-spline and much stronger however it's not a direct swap either. None of the options are cheap. Except for buying an american vehicle and upgrading that..

i was just trying to see if a g80 to fit because they come stock in z71s and i could pull one off a dead one. but if they dont fit do the toyota diffs come locked stock.

Nope but the lockers for toyotas are usually cheaper.. You're gonna have to buy axles regardless if you're running lockers, stock rover axles will break.

how much would an axle swap cost me and would it be possible to do it with a chevy.
