No you shouldnt have any problems, a power steering pump is a power steering pump as far as the winch is concerned.

Why not? They are very reliable and you can winch for as long as you want not to mention that is the type of winch the military uses.
Electric winch's you can only winch a min or two at a time.
Then you have to let the winch motor cool down for 5 min or so and then back to winching.

I wonder if it will heat the fluid and a cooler will be needed? They chevy pump probably is a stronger pump to began with.

Since the thread has been brought back to life, I'd love to know the part number for the hose. Looked back through and didn't see it posted.

I don't want to admit to what I did to get this pump to work on my '94. I could really use the above hose before something goes south on my setup.

I have made a custom stainless steel power hose , would something like that help you?

That sounds interesting. For a low pressure line, stainless steel would seem to be overkill and you would still need a very short length of rubber line to join the stainless to the pump. I'd like to minimize the number of hose clamps between the pump and the reservoir. Maybe I'm not understanding what type of hose you've created - have a pic?

Keep in mind I have a '94 which has a distributor right there by the pump. Makes for very little room to work with that GM pump and its straight inlet.

I did, however, find a NAPA part number for a heater hose with a molded 90 degree bend in it from a Pirate 4x4 thread (NAPA Power Steering Pump - Pirate4x4.Com Bulletin Board) which is NBH 9811. But, I wouldn't think that this hose would fill the need by itself - I'd have to stick my head under the hood and do some measuring and such.

The hose I have appears to be a heater hose. It is sweating some, but still is holding up. I did pick up a hydraulic hose in bulk from a local hose company that is oil rated. The hose is straight, but I think it will be ok if ran next to the water pump by the engine. The bend radius looks to be feasible since the hose is pretty stiff. Use a heater hose for now. It will sweat some, but it is a temp fix.

A better solution for a hydraulic winch would be a real hydraulic pump running off the transfer case PTO.
