Code P1177 - Sometimes hard to start when warm.
98 D1, Gems Engine. Code P1177 FMFR
I haven't had the problem (yet) from a cold start. But sometimes when its warm, I have to open the throttle for it start. I replaced the IAC yesterday thinking it might be the problem and it ran fine initially. But, the Disco acted up again after driving maybe 5 miles. I tried to start it, had to give it gas and then it ran rough. It will run rough when it has a hard time starting. I turned it off and left it sit overnight. So, today I started it up and haven't had the issue (of course when my mechanic friend was over).
I have unplugged the MAF with the engine running to see if it might be the culprit. It sounded like it was going to die, but then returned back to idle. I plugged it back in and it idled higher initially and settled back down to normal idle. I repeated this a few more times, but the idle didn't changed when I uplugged it, only higher for a couple seconds when I plugged it back in.
Tomorrow we will be checking the fuel pressure for safe measure.
Anything else we should look at?

I had the same issue - never resolved it as I have to replace my engine anyway but assuming after you get it running there are no other problems and its just a matter of getting it started while warm, the two likely causes that I was pointed to were:
1) Fuel temp sensor is bad - causes the ECU to give too much fuel when warm and effectively floods the engine.
2) Leaky injector - causes the same symptoms as above due to flooding.

1177 is max negative fuel correction per the BEMS document Savannah provided a while back. Wouldn't max negaitive be a lean condition instead of a rich condition?
I would think rich condition is max positive correction, but I could be wrong.
Pull a plug and see what it looks like.
Maybe one of our gurus could add more info to help analyze the fault.
One thing I have found helpful is a thorough cleaning of the port where the IACV and the other ports on the plenum are.
