Using the search function here, that seems to be O2 Sensors? (plus a misfire, which could be random)

Questions:
- I found one thread discussing cleaning the cats and the O2 codes quit. The member sprayed water down the throat where he'd removed the Y-pipe () and that seems to have netted him a no-code. Has anyone else tried this? Was that a fluke, or is there some science to this?

- Best / cheapest place to buy correct O2 sensors? and do I understand that there are in fact 4 of them?

It could be a few different things! Tune up current? Vacumn leak? Octane using?

The auto parts houses do sell some miracle cure stuff but I have never tried it. I would be afraid to spray water thru them personally.

My suggestion on what to buy first would be an ultra guauge so you can monitor all the live data and then see what conclusions to draw.

If I believe the stack of receipts I was handed Friday when I bought this, the tune-up was done in April. Included wires, plugs, etc etc.

I will poke around for vacuum leaks. And I'm running 89 octane (I'm at 4000' elevation).

 

Is 89 your "premium" there?

You have a problem with your O2 sensors which is highly likely causing the third code relating to random misfires. The problem may be in the wiring and I would inspect the wiring asap. It's also highly possible your O2 sensors are old and worn out. This is common. The NTK 25044 is a cheap and great quality O2 sensor replacement for AEL D1s.

You can run lower octane at higher elevations. I've seen places in the mountains where the regular, low octane stuff was 85 instead of 87.

 

we have 91, 89 & 87 at the pumps. 89 is the midgrade and what I typically use in everything.

I wondered about it being the wiring... but thought that'd be too easy for my luck. I'll inspect it tomorrow!

and somebody help me with something I should know: "AEL" means WHAT exactly?

 

Run a tank of 91 or if you can find it 93 through it and see if that clears it up!

 

Rovers require premium fuel, so try it.

AEL = advanced evaporative loss. It's an emissions system designed to prevent the loss of fuel vapors on '97(some)-'99 Discos. D1s with AEL also had other changes, such as different O2 sensors (cheaper than pre-AEL thankfully).

 

You are now not driving everything, but a Rover that has 2 tags stating Premium only as in 91 and above which I would suggest you run till you fix your trucks issues.
How many miles on the truck, if over 100,000 miles, I would suggest you replace all 4 04's and the ones for the advanced emission system, which your's has, are not cheap.
Find the exact part numbers and then do a search on Google for the best price.
In the mean time, no water down the intake.
