Then if you fail you have 10 days to correct the problem and retest for free right?
Does anyone know which states test?

There's a grace period of some kind. Air Care Colorado :: Quick Information

Sounds like a huge pain in the rump.
I'm all for clean air, but man.

Looks like maintnenace can dramatically change the numbers. I think that I will replace the plugs, wires are distributor cap before each inspection.

When I took it in Wednesday, the tech that first tired to drive it on the rollers, couldn't handle it and had to get another tech to do the rolling test.

Default Need emission for 1987 Range Rover

I went for emission test. I have 1987 Range Rover I am rebuilding. It has 167K on it. It does not smoke, just leaks like it supposed to do. They were unable to perform the test due to not being able to keep the speed within the limits. In other words it was too slow to get up to the 60 mile/hour. There is a computer green arrow, that the "technician" must follow/match.
The combination of long gas pedal travel, under powered drive train when new, and now the age, I am not surprised.
I am thinking going to the airport and put aviation high octane fuel in it only for the test, if the engine could handle it. I will face the same problem next year.
Any ideas?
Thank you.

Wasting time and money. Just put in the required/recommended octane. A higher octane than recommended will NOT give you more power.

I have the option to get my sticker with or without any testing. It's $20 more without testing.

What size tires are you running, as in stock or significantly taller? I'm wondering if you have a tall tire and the stock gearing, which won't help matters.

I've also had poor emission test drivers before. Literally they had to swap out drivers so that they had one which could better anticipate accelerating and decelerating. Might be because my rides are all underpowered older manual trans vehicles and the altitude sucks out what little oomph the things had in the first place. You gotta be on top of the shifting and gas pedal to keep the arrow in the green with my rides.

Default Emission testing '87 Rover

Yes you are correct higher octane will not give it more power! And I do have bigger tires 225/75 R 16. And yes I forgot about our high altitude 5 degrees more is what I used to have. All of the above is a factor.
I have two more weeks before the plates are expired. I will do some tweaking.
Just if they would let me drive it.
I read about little denatured alcohol will bring the emissions down and give more instant burn.
I would pay $ 20 extra
Thanks for your helpful replies.

I just had my Colorado emissions done on my '96 for the first time, and it failed, which doesn't surprise me.

HC GPM: 0.4637 limit 1.2 PASS
CO GPM: 17.2390 limit 15.0 FAIL
CO2 GPM: 592.1064
NOx GPM: 1.5133 limit 3.5 PASS

My UltraGuage is reporting a bad bank 1 Cat, so the high CO reading makes sense. This is extra funny because the report says that the cat passed. But anyway, it's close enough to the limit that I might try some trickery to get it within limits. Anyone know a way to test for that with the UltraGuage?
