Default Coming Back To Rovers???

OK Guys I've been looking at getting another car.. and getting a 4x4 SUV. For some, you know I had a 2003 with CDL and few other cools things (like NO 3 AMIGOS) =)

I loved it. But I sold it.

NOW I need all of you to convince me why I should get a DI... vs/or a 2004.
HOWEVER... after spending so much on modifying my 2003, I would like to keep my next Discovery stock. Maybe a roof rack, ladder, rock sliders that look like they are original equipment, and thats it. I want something as close to looking like this and this

VS this

at least for a long time...3 years maybe.

Keep in mind that I know more about DI/DII than other vehicles and I am pretty mechanically inclined. You can imagine my website will now have DI write-ups too, lol. SO, with that said, convince me to get a DI. I've found one I would buy. Thanks!!

PS. I had a 2000 4Runner 4x4 for about 10 months and i was impressed with the little offroading I did with it, BUT nothing like driving a 12mpg TANK. The 4runner was only getting 14mpg...

Never had a D2 but the D1 is solid, super easy to wrench on and will go like stink offroad (more so with a few key mods). Get it!

I was told at a Fall Land Rover Event by a service manager of Land Rover that he wouldn't change anything on my 95 D1, because I must have the right setup. He was surprised to hear that it was all stock except for aggressive mud tires, as I went through every obstacle that was thrown my way and made it look easy. Even saw several modified newer Rovers having a difficult time with obstacles.

There are things I like about the d2 like longer, outside door handles, good alternator, some minor creature comforts
But d1 has IMO much better axles and looks way easier to work on, I have never worked on d2 just taken parts off them

If you like wrenching in your spare time, get the DI.
If you want to "gas-N-go" get a Montero.

Both have personality.
No off road equipment for the Montero in North America.

The DI is slow, drinks fuel like its free and can barely seat 4 adults.

The Montero is quick, drinks fuel like its free and seats 5 adults and 2 midgets.

I buried the speedo on my Montero (120) AND the cruise still set and kept speed (most wont set above 85.
The 3.5L V6 has 200hp, but it feels like much more.
I smoked a Grand Cherokee H.O. on the expressway, he tried to pass me on the right, I floored it, she dropped down to 2nd, tach climbed to 6,000 and I walked away from him like he was standing still.
That thing would go anywhere I pointed it.
Pull anything I wanted to pull.
She never complained in the 5yrs I owned her.
I would buy another in a heart beat, but I had one with my first wife and my 2nd wont go for it.

I LOVE my Rover, she has never once let me down, ever.
She has always gone wherever I pointed her, pulled anything I wanted and has a great personality.
She's seen 5,000rpm, and the fastest ever was 90.

I've owned a D1, two D2, an LR3, and a diesel 90. Honestly they all have some things that are better and some things that are worse. If we could get them here, I'd say a D1 with a 200 or 300 tdi. But since we cannot, I think a stock D2 with CDL and traction control will go places a stock D1 with just CDL will not go. The rear axle in a D1/defender/rrc will keep both tires on the ground a little better though.
