Default cooling questions

97 d1 111k miles, over the summer in 95 degree temps my truck gets to 212,224 and as high as 228. tonight driving 50 miles at night without ac she runs at 188 maybe 199 which is acceptable.my question is if there are no cooling system problems [180 degree t-tat,new water pump,4yr old rad] is this normal for a d1,when you see d1 's running in 120 degree desert temps they have to be running at the higher temps, once coolant gets hot it stays at the higher temps.just.just wan't to know once and for all range of operating temps. like some feedback and thanks

Check to see if your condenser fans are working. Also your fan clutch.

Piece by piece I replaced my entire coolant system and still had high temps. In the end I replaced the coolant reservoir and that did the trick!

should have mentioned cooling fans and viscous fan are fairly new and working, overflow container is fairly new,no leaks, since all systems are working just wondering if this is the operating range and since truck hasn't overheated i shouldn't be concerned

What about your air filter and what oil are you running?

have a k&n filter and only run penzoil 20/50 conventional oil, change every 3 months regardless of mileage, just thinking this is the normal temp range for this truck

20/50 is pretty thick stuff... I'm on 15/40 with an all-new cooling system (minus heater core) and if my truck goes over 200, I'm surprised. Typically I see a lot of 186, 194, and 199 highest. I live in south FL, as well. At one point over the summer I got 210 after a lot of stop and go. Why do you run such a thick oil? Is it your bearings?

You don't get problems starting on cold mornings?
