Default Cooling System Burp

Hey has anyone ever burped the system with out using the plug in the radiator? Planning on a coolant flush and thermostat this weekend. My bleed plug is JB welded shut. I really don't want to find out why. But it doesn't leak. Even under 40lb of pressure with my pressure tester. Who's idea was it not to have a regular old radiator cap.

they mounted the heater core higher than were the radiator cap would be. if you have a pressure tester fill the system put it under pressure and try bleeding thru the top heater hose, that's how I did my DII.

On a related note. ..The lower hose I got seems sub par...this is what was pictured..

Molded hose. No clamps.

THIS is what I got... sorry for the blurry one

Bunch of euro clamps on thin plastic unions and ill fitting hoses. Seem like crap to you? I know I can fix the fitment..but still! These were not cheap. My current hose isn't that old but I wanted to replace it since I'll have the coolant out anyway. It's a hose like a the first one. Now I don't want to change it at all. Any one else run the second type? Am I being over paranoid?

i have that same hose, but haven't installed it. the genuine LR one in place seems good still (was probably replaced by the PO). idk, it seems like a decent setup to me.

I did a coolant flush and thermostat along with the hoses. I bled air from the heater hose connection via pressure tester. Seems to have worked well.

Just for the record that hose was COMPLETE CRAP! I had to not only clock the hoses in relation to each other but all had to be trimmed down. Not just the ends. I mean the 90* off the main tee was too high making it kink. The middle section was too long. And the short 90* heater line going upwards was also too long on the main part.

All in all I had to completely disassemble this turd trim re clock it and reassemble it. Really freaking annoying when you pay 45 bucks for it. Laying in coolant fixing something that should just be right to begin with. Took 5 times longer than it should have.

That was a Rip on that hose!! I'd send them a letter on that one!
Long time ago I went to NAPA looking for a less expensive hose than L/R. They didn't have it in stock but what they showed me in their book looks exactly like what you bought. Crapload of universal fittings, clamps and hose lengths. I looked at my Napa guy and said, you gotta be kidding me. He was totally straight-faced and said it was the way to go. I lost a little faith in him that day for trying to sell me a product that in my mind was a cobbled together POS.

I went and bought the 'right' land rover hose because I didn't want to have 5x more clamps and PVC fittings to crack and leak. Didn't think about the fitment issue.

I'm sure yours will work ok, but check the clamps for tightness periodically.
