Default couple question on 300tdi conversion

some things im still unsure of. looking to start in the next few months

does the pedal box bolt right in?

does the transmission fit on the original mounts?

do i leave my original wiring harness there and wire the 300 into it? or pull it out completely?

i just learned about glow plugs so im kinda curious how long it takes to start the 300. if you have to wait at all even.

any good walkthroughs on the conversion? or maybe somebody in las vegas haha

are 300tdi's with a/c as rare as the first ad says?

thanks!

The glow plugs go on for about 5 seconds and then you can start the engine. Mine kicks over pretty much immediately.

Apparently a/c is a pretty rare option on the 300tdi in Europe, I'm not sure how rare it is in hotter countries such as Australia.

ps. I just noticed that I've been a member of this site since 2008 and this was my very first post. I'll put up some info on my D1 in the near future.

I think something as new as a 300tdi would have a glow plug timer, you'd let them work until the light goes out, probably just a few seconds. On my 2.5NA I have to light them manually, and someone once said as much as 40 seconds on this old engine. Not really sure though.

what ive found so far

there is a relay for the glow plug timer and works just as you said jafir.

pedal box bolts in

change the crossmember and the transmission will fit

still a little confused on the ecu. seems like that will run the windows, locks, a/c etc. im hoping they will still work even though there wont be an engine as far as it knows. ill be swapping clusters to have the glow plug light and no check engine light(not that it really matters)

hoping the power steering and clutch line will drop in from the donor vehicle but still unsure

I've got a 300tdi. Coming also and a few questions when it comes to wiring it. I have already done the 5speed conversion and yes the pedal box will bolt in but involves removing the steering column to swap the pedals over. I guess this can be the 300tdi conversion thread.lol

Right now your automatic cooling lines run to the radiator and then to a second cooler mounted behind the bumper. when you install the manual tranny you will only use the second cooler and will no longer need the radiator cooler. you will also need to find the reverse light wiring on your transmission and the neutral safety wiring. Permanently jump the neutral safety wiring so that you can start your rover. If your using a transfer case from an automatic you will also need to remove the shift interlock solinoid
