Manufacture date of my Disco 10/94.
3.9L Engine -

Problem: Internittent "No Start" after driven and hot - Not hot as in overheat - Hot as in - normal driving temp - city driving 10-15 miles. Get to destination - sit for 1 hour - return and start her up.
The first few strokes fire up, but then no fuel, and she stutters spits and stalls.

Checked fuel pressure at rail - 0 - when trying to start -
Checked fuel pump - no sound
No CEL
Did NOT check "spark" as suggested - to determine whether CKP Crank Shaft Position sensor is working or not working.
I thought I would at least check the CKP Crank Shaft Position sensor and see if I could at least clean it and go from there.

I didn't find what I expected to see -

Asking for some input - The pic I've attached - is the left (driverside) side of the engine at the transmission. I expected to see a 2-3 inch deep box like cover over the CKP Crank Shaft Position sensor.

is the 93/94/95 Disco supposed to have a sensor here?

Note 1: If you have a distributor on the front of the engine, with spark plug wires that run out from it to the cylinders, you won't have a CKP sensor. It is used on later models.

Note 2: Let us stay with the fuel. X128 is the fuel temp sensor, it tells the ECU the fuel is so hot in the injector rails that bubbles may have formed, and the ECU changes the length of the electric pulse sent to the injectors to flush this out quickly on hot re-starts. See attached from the RAVE - has a pix.
Specs for the Lucas style sensor, if you want to read it with a good ohm meter.

• Located on the fuel rail forward of the intake housing, between left and right injector banks

Note 3: You should have fuel pressure at the rail (test port that looks like tire valve you can attach gauge to). Pump only runs for a second or so if engine is not turning. Pump draws about 5 amps. Inertia switch blocks pump operation if activated.

 

It is the fuel pump dude.
Sitting for a hour the engine will have cooled off enough for the fuel temp sensor to be a non issue, hard start when hot after getting gas, yes, fuel temp sensor, sitting for a hour while you eat lunch, no.
Now we need to figure out why the fuel pump wont come on, either it is bad or the relay is bad, start with the fuel pump relay.

When this issue first occurred, and posted a discussion regarding the "fuel relay". I was NOT able to find the relay switch. I posted some pics and I never got a definitive answer. I will check for this relay again.

Could you provide me a little detail as to where I will find the fuel relay -

I researched the fuel relay in the the RAVE and I found section 19 - It states:

The two multiport fuel injection relays are located in
the RH footwell area behind the ’A’ post panel. The
main relay module is energized via the ECM when the
ignition is switched on and supplies current to the
multiport fuel injection system. The fuel pump relay
module is energized by the ECM which in turn

operates the fuel pump to pressurize the fuel system.


Does this mean that the fuel pump relay is located inside the truck under glove box area?

Yes, it is inside the truck behind the kick panel/under the dash.
The kick panel is the plastic that is by the passengers foot.
It pops off.

Screw those guys.
Relay - Fuel Pump (AFU2913OE Same Fit As Part # 0 332 014 112) - Land Rover connector\relays\flasher from Atlantic British
NAPA and O'Rielly's sell the exact same relay, looks super cheap in quality to me.
If you order today from AB you should have it by Wed. if you use FedEx Home Delivery.
You can get it cheaper from Trevor at RovahFarm for all your new Land Rover Parts and Accessories but he uses USPS flat rate boxes and it takes almost a week to get your parts, its not Trevors fault.
If you can wait buy from Rovahfarm, if you cant use AB.
