Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement Question
Alright, I got the old crank sensor out and repaired the brittle, bare wires.
Problem now is, where it mounts seems floppy and loose. Found all kinds of stuff on a D2 but nothing on a '98. Thought it was moving around before I removed it but didn't think much of it at the time. Was cussing too much.

Where did the 2x4 come in?
I replaced my CKPS on my 96 a few times and both bolts were going through the shield, through the spacer/collar and then through the sensor to the bolt holes. This is also true of the 2 CKPS sensors I have done for a 98 as well. If it is loose mounted this way, something else is wrong or the sensor is not in far enough for the bolts to properly hold everything together.
