Default Cruise issue

Ok, so when I bought my truck over 3 years ago the cruise did not work, so I fixed it.
Well in the last week or so it has started not holding the truck at the speed I set.
So I set out to fix it again.
So here is how I fixed it the first time, and this time too.
Keep in mind this is yet another one of Uncle Spike's Disco on a Budget repairs/upgrades.

Here you can see the cracked vacuum line.

Here is what I used to fix it.

I applied 1 coat, let it dry for 10 min and then did a second coat.
Is it pretty?
No.
Does my cruise work after spending $5 and 15 min?
Yes.

Default C 'Mon Uncle Spike...

I know we all try to fix things on a budget now and then but how much is a piece of rubber tube?

May I suggest buying a piece of vac line and replacing that old cracked pos.

Yes you may suggest it.

I have one day a week to do all of my auto repairs/home repairs/errands etc. so I have to be creative sometimes.

Thumbs up

It sure does help to be a little bit of a "macguyver" at times with these things.

Nice temp fix, I would still make plans on replacing the hoses. Mine keeps doing the same and I have cut spliced it to it's limit. Time to replace.

so something to think about: this is actually a pretty common problem in our trucks, I know it is always the first thing we suggest to check when a CC system isn't working, and I think most of us have dealt with it at least once probably a few times each. My thoughts are this happens because of the heat in our engine bays, so I wonder if there is any kind of high temp paint or something that may help prevent this from happening?

anyways it is just a thought, but good post Phil, always love these ideas!

Me too... so when I have to change the inner seal on both front hubs, I might need more than one day, but then other stuff gets delayed, like my homewok or installing drywall in my bedroom.

Good post.

I saw a car show of some sort a couple of saturdays ago on PBS and they were doing alot of custom upgrades to a mustang I believe (if I remember correctly). Anyway they had a kind of heat tape to wrap lines and the exhaust manifolds. It came in a roll like duct tape. They said it would work to shield the manifolds so I figure it would reflect the heat on those rubber lines too. It wasn't very expensive. I just don't remember the name. They used it to wrap the alt to to shield it from heat.

Considering that these hoses are 13 years old and the first time I fixed it like this it lasted 3 years I am not to worried about it.
I will replace the vacuum line, but if you are on a long trip and need to "get you by" this will def work.
Or is you are pressed for time, this will work, want to sell the truck but need to fix the cruise first, this will work, you get the idea.
Call me cheap, call me lazy, call be whatever you want I really dont care, I am the fat bald guy wearing the Hawaiian shirt and shorts in the white Land Rover in February when the temp is 2*F, One Life, Live It.

You are OK in my book Spike. I don't worry about my cruise control, I may get around to it one of these days...................
