cups or no cups on rear shock lower mounts?
fool me once shame on you .. but yea I ordered the same (OEM.. supposedly) shocks for the D1 number 2 and have the same issue.
The lower pin is much shorter than the originals and there is not enough length to use the caps on both sides of the bushings. I cheated last time but this time I figured I could pre-compress the bushings enough to get the job done but no luck.
Called Atlantic British and they said "yea.. you have the cups tack-welded onto the lower mount and all you gotta do is pop those off and use the caps that came with the shock" Then I remembered how much I deformed the cups on the last D1 trying to hammer them off until I gave up and ... don't remember what I did but it wasn't .. uh right.
I did try a punch and heavy hammer again but those cups are NOT spot welded.. they are there to stay. Small chance of any on this forum that are opting for OEM shock but I was wondering if you guys still have those cups or are they history?
thankz

If you are deforming the cups with a "punch" it's the wrong tool (too blunt) and you are not hitting it low enough.
And you are correct the cups are not spot welded, but the will come off 100%.
You need a 1" Cold Chisel for metal (fairly thin at the tip) placed at a slight downward angle on the axle bracket just UNDER the cup.
Hit it with a sledge hammer (maybe twice) and the cup comes right off.
I've done this tons of times and the chisel always works.
If you have an air chisel the job is done in half the time, but the air chisel is really not needed.
You'll get it done just try again.
Good Luck!

Thanks for that.. I am on the ground with jacks and not getting a good swing with the hammer.. I guess I could get red or blue aftermarket bushings and keep the cups..
I kinda like the idea of keeping this thing as close to original as I can. Even pics of "Genuine" shocks are showing the smaller bushings and extra caps. If you watch videos from the EU you will see britpart shocks with the larger bushings and only two caps but can't find them here.
