I put this in today (96 4.0 GEMs). About $26 for two hoses from AutohausAZ, $4 pcv valve from O'Riellys. Even though my oil baffle was very clean after about 12k miles. The AutohausAZ hoses are a bit better quality than the previous Roverparts items, and cost less.

Best 4x4 PCV modification

Yeah the previous owner of my 97 XD changed that hose before I bought it. I agree it's a much better quality hose vs the OEM. I've got about 4k on the PCV Mod and it's doing great. Just a quick and easy thing to upgrade on a GEMS engine setup for sure.

I have a 97 disco 1 with the 4.0 V8. For the plastic piece on the valve cover. Do I just pull up on the plastic piece? Or will I need to remove the round piece of metal it sits in?

If the plastic baffle is really stuck in there probably best to just grab it and twist it while lifting up. Should come out pretty easily.

Shockingly it came right out! Barely any build up on the plastic either. Valve cover gaskets are roughly a year old, and only that side is leaking. Figured it was PCV related. Still going to delete the plastic piece, and use an inline one instead.

Thanks!

Giving some personal feedback regarding this mod.

The stock plastic trap inside the valve cover doesn’t get clogged, nor build up any sludge. I did this mod simply because it was cheap and easy.

Within 5k miles the PCV valve clogged. I noticed when I started getting some dripping oil leaks… Put the stock system back in place, and all is well.

(My D1 doesn’t have blowby either)

why didn't you just spray some cleaner into the PCV to unclog it?

cleaning the PCV valve at every oil change keeps them in good working order on my '04 Discovery and '00 P38.

I can post about 1,000 photo's of the stock OEM LR D1/D2 baffle completely clogged from lack of cleaning because 99% of people don't even know it's there...... You can simply slide off the new style valve at every oil change and "service" it. Do as you wish it's your LR, but that OEM baffle is pathetic.

I take the hose off and blast the baffle with carb cleaner every oil change - stays clean

Because during 5,000 miles nothing builds up on the stock baffle. Which leads me to believe the Honda PCV is too small. The fact it cause some leaks due to being clogged as well, is something I don’t want to be forced to keep an eye on constantly.
