D1 '98 v8 Driver's door locking issues
Hi all, my driver's door is not playing ball.
Key spins in the barrel.
Lock won't close on central locking, but will open.
Door latch replaced by local garage but now door isn't engaging on the striker post on the b pillar. It continues to just bounce off. In order to keep the door locked, it has to be held shut and the button depressed.
Anyone help me with this or send a link to a tutorial.
Thanks
Craig

I think you'll have to remove the door panel, and get in there, put your eyes on things. Hard to say for sure what the problem is. My guess is a rod associated with the lock wasn't fully installed from the mechanic (or they broke the retainer in the process). Which would explain why it spins freely. Likely the lock rod fell down and b/c it's short, became jammed part-way causing the rest of the latch to be in sort of a 'half-way' position. It's not uncommon with vehicles in general if the lock rod gets out of position.
I have a Jeep XJ that has something very similar going on like that currently. Today I need to take the inner door panel off and resolve something along those lines.
Best advice is to take your time and work methodically. Try not to damage or break door panel retainers. While you are in there lube up key points like window sliding tracks, etc which don't get lubed up enough as it is. That'll help window up/down movement. May help reduce other problems down the road.
