Default D1 cig lighter not working

Ok. I know I've searched but didn't find answers to my issue.
I have a 98 D1 and was using a power inverter out of the lighter to run some lights. my friend is in the car while I get something out of the back and they stop working. He doesn't now what happened even though he was fiddling with the plug.
The fuse for the power and heated seats and the lighter was blown. thought that would be the end of it,
but the lighter still doesn't work despite the other components on the same fuse working.
I've pulled the lighter out and theres no 12v to the plugs at all
any ideas?
Could a wire have shorted out from the high amperage of the inverter?

Thanks in advance for the help

If shorted you'd still have fuse blowing. Possibly burned through creating an open wire.

Plug contact/wire heated/brunt causing high resistance not allowing meter reading?

Do you have 12v power at the fuse? If not then I'd check under hood fuse MF3 60A.

BAAAA!
I thought your reply would be: The other three switch settings--SMOKE, SMOLDER and IGNITE.

EVERYBODY knows the wire in a Land Rover is nothing more than fusible link...... POOF! You smell something? Like what? Like something burning!

I had the same issue. I knew the circuit was fine, but no voltage on the lighter socket. I reached behind the cover, pulled the plug off the back, and tested good 12V at the terminal. I pushed it back on and the socket started working. I think the socket itself is just dodgy.

I found three options to replace it.

This replacement would also have the green illumination ring like the stock part:
Amazon.com: Illuminated Cigarette Lighter 12V, Small Button, Flosser 181407, Made in Germany: Automotive Amazon.com: Illuminated Cigarette Lighter 12V, Small Button, Flosser 181407, Made in Germany: Automotive

This repair kit could allow the failed part to be replaced while keeping the original parts that aren't broken:
Amazon.com: Dorman 56457 Cigarette Lighter Socket and Removal Tool: Automotive Amazon.com: Dorman 56457 Cigarette Lighter Socket and Removal Tool: Automotive

This is a quality replacement that is not illuminated but I believe it will be dependable. The flange is optional and removable:
Amazon.com: Marine Grade Cigarette Lighter Socket 12 VDC: Cell Phones & Accessories Amazon.com: Marine Grade Cigarette Lighter Socket 12 VDC: Cell Phones & Accessories
