Default D1 or D2?

So a few of my buddies have been bantering about which is the better truck. I say the D1 because first of all I have one, and second of all it seems easier to work on than the D2. I also threw out that there is less to go wrong with a D1 from an electrical point of view, and that the castings of the engine block are of a much higher quality than that of the D2. What do you guys think?

This has been debated too much.

Basicly the d2 is just as capable, minus the rear over hang. However they were a more watered down discovery, not built specificly for offroad.

DI all the way.
Less to go wrong, easier to repair.
The DII was built for soccer moms and mall crawlers, the DI was built for expeditions.

i don't even have any kids!

D2's are better. because D1 owners have it easy. what kind of true Land Rover Owner just wants to drive around and enjoy their truck? a D2 owner is proud to have to work on our rigs every weekend, hunting down electrical gremlins and changing out hubs and drive shafts. its much more fun working on your truck twice as much as you drive it. D2's all the way!

Disco I's have more in common with the D-90's.

But if I was looking for a new Disco it would be very hard to find a Disco I in good shape.

I would be looking at a Disco III or a (USA) LR3.

Until LR sends N.A. working Rovers D-110's 130"s or 90's it just not much for the outdoors person to look at.

What you get very much depends on what you want to use it for.

Very true. I bought mine to go into unknown areas of Colorado. To camp where there are no people except my family and myself. It is also not my primary vehicle, it shares time on the road with my porsche 944. Yes... I am a glutten for punishment.

I will never buy a jeep or equivilent. I love my DI.

I bought my '95 DI based on the experience of a Land Rover mechanic that works on all Rovers. He told me to stay away from the D2!

This is cool to have our own D1 forum; we can say things that we like to hear without a concern about being nice to everyone.
I bought my 98 D1 as the last of the Land Rover management design before BMW redesigned them. I agree that D1’s were designed for expeditions and it has been said the D2’s where designed for rich women to drive to the shopping mall.
Boy we can get into a lot of trouble on our own.
