D1 MPG and Ultragage
Looking up what other D1 folks get MPG-wise, because in the last 500 miles I got 9.8 in mixed driving, I ran across two folks who reported 10 to 15 MPG in 96 SE7s, but what caught my eye was that their Ultragages were reporting correct MPG.
Chris-bob said "Well, for all you stockers out there, my D1 is completely stock(tires too) and gets 10mpg. But I also have an intermittent high idle issue(that could be considered stock too...) I calculate that the old fashioned way with a pen and paper then compare it to my UltraGauge. Both say the same thing. And it does not matter how much fuel is in the tank or when you fill up. It is calculated the same. My mileage does not change if I fill up at 3/4 tank vs. empty. The mpg is the same. 1996 Discovery SE7 stock V8 with 5 speed manual. 85K original miles."
Snowdog said "I get between 15-15.9 each and every tank (230-260 miles), with maybe one 14 MPG tank and one where I broke into the 16s! I always fill by the time it gets to a 1/4 tank, if it gets much lower I seem to have a fuel pick up issue, especially going up steep hills. I haven't done plugs or wires yet, and it's air filter replacement time, so maybe I'll sneak into the 16s a little more. Stock including tire size. Right now my UltraGauge reads about 2 MPG more than actual, but I haven't calibrated it yet for fuel usage. 1996 Discovery SE7"
My 98 D1 LE reports very low Grams per Second MAF values at the OBDII which makes UG think I am getting 1500 miles per gallon, so what is the difference between 96 and 98 that makes their UGs read OK or is it a D1 VS SE7 thing?
BTW, MPGs reported ranged from 10 to 24; apparently my stock D1 is on the bottom end of the "your results may vary" spectrum. Perhaps it is because my OD doesn't kick in until I hit 55 MPH and there are a lot of 50 MPH 2 lane roads around home, or that darn P1314 that keeps popping up isn't helping.

That's an interesting thought - could be.
Anyone know if a 96 computer can work in a 98? Or might it be the same issue.
I wonder if later Discos send the MAF values the UG is looking for - perhaps I should ask the D2 guys.
And, yes, the UG is strictly OBDII. BTW, I used an OBDII splitter so I can keep the UG connected and still check anti-lock codes - much easier to reach for anti-lock checks too.

In mine, factory CD changer under the driver's seat and the stereo amp under the passenger. 94-95 is different than the 96-99 with a decent amount of stuff.. or so I've found.
