Thank you for the quick reply! I have some Redline 80W-140 lying around so I'll use that. Nice write up!

Just a quick note for future reference...

The process is the same for Disco 2.

I just wanted to make sure I read the post correctly. I just need to use RTV as the sealant instead of an actual seal? I have a small leak and if thats the fix, I'll knock it out tomorrow.

If you are talking about the inspection cover then yes use grey RTV or now they even make an RTV for gear oil specifically.

Where do you get that? Was there a TSB on it? The manual calls for either 80w or 90w gear oil.

I have always recommended the heavier gear oil, 75W/140 for the extra wear protection and in some cases, quieter gears but always a synthetic since that is what all D2's came out with.

I just want to change the oil.
How do you drain the oil?
How much oil do you add back?
And how do you refill?

The fill plug is on the rear side and takes a 1/2 inch drive to fit the plug. In my pictures you can see I just used a breaker bar. Make sure you can remove the fill plug before you drain the old oil. The drain plug is on the bottom. Buy the hand pump at an auto parts store and fill the transfer case until the oil comes out the fill plug hole. Buy the 1 gallon jug and you will have enough. Look at my pictures and you will see all the tools you need. I use Teflon tape on the fill plug threads and it comes out easy.

I followed this write up this morning, thank you, I only had one issue, my transfer case only took about 1 1/2 quarts till it began to seep out the fill hole. I am hoping the 1/2 quart won't make a difference.

You are fine, on level ground it only takes just over 1.5 qts.
I run my rear tires up onto ramps when I fill mine so it takes 2 qts.
