Default d1 windshield replacement-need to remove hood?

I had arranged for Safelite to come out to replace my 98 Disco's cracked windshield tomorrow but just got a call from the Safelite manager who said it may need to be done in the shop because they might have to remove the hood to do the windshield.

Anyone had a D1 windshield done? Did they have to remove the hood to do it?

He is supposed to call back in the morinig to verify that they have the glass (said the warehouse wasn't showing one but it could be because it was on the way and he couldn't check tonight because they'd gone home) and arrange an appointment at the shop.

You could just unbolt it from the hinges. It's only 4 bolts total.

The Safelite manager called this morning and said the disco windshield definitely had to be done in the shop so he is taking the glass to a location nearest to me; still 30 miles one way and two to four hours from the middle of my day, but I guess it is better to have it done right.

I'll let you know how it goes and if they remove the hood (bonnett to you Brits) to do it. I'll have them re-install the D1 mirror bracket.

I hope to go by the address of the last registered owner to ask if the mirror was there when she sold it and also if she was able to shift it to low after the Transfer case was replaced (the seller to my Brother-in-law said Speedy-Lube left the drain plug out and had to replace the T case shortly before he bought it to "fix up" but then decided he didn't have time)

The guys at Safelite said they DID need to remove the hood to do the windshield and it took them four hours. I read a lot of magazines. They also said the new windshield came with the mirror mount already on it.

Removing the hood is a piece of cake. 4 bolts as described earlier and it hardly weighs anything (aluminum). One guy can remove by himself. I've done it several times. 10 min job.
