d2 shocks on d1
I see this mentioned from time to time and guess I am needing shocks soon, is it worth converting to use d2 shocks and what do I need to do? Can I get the parts off a d2?

You'd be better off converting to standard eye/eye shocks. You can use D2 towers (I have some I'll sell ya cheap) and eyelet adapters at the bottom (which you could fab pretty easy with your welding skills).
I've been running eyelet shocks on my D1 for a while.

I would copy the RTE lower mounts.
Running eye to eye shocks opens up your shock choices exponentially. The D2 style and D1 style shocks limit your choices quite a bit, not only in brand but in lengths as well. With an eye to eye shock you can also walk into pretty much and auto parts storw and they'll have something that will work.

The D2 have a 12mm eye at the top, and some weird pin through the eye at the bottom. http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/9522
IMO its a good idea to get rid on the proprietary Rover weirdness.
