Default Defender calipers on a D1 questions

What I would like to know from those who have done this upgrade are:
do you go 90 or 110?
is the stopping better?
how is the pedal travel?
was it worth it?

I'm awaiting parts to replace my swivel seal as they are leaking and "while I'm in there" I'm thinking of going with the larger brakes off a 90 or 110.
I need to replace my front rotors as they are down to 10mm and a bit scored. SO, since I need new pads, and rotors I thought I may go for the bigger brake as I've been wanting to do since I bought this D1.
I do tow a race car on a trailer sometimes and also do a fair amount of off-roading.
I have replaced all the lines with SS braided, a new Lucas M/C, bled, vacuum bled, power bled, and still the brakes leave a lot to be desired.
Since I need new pads and rotors anyway, that just leaves calipers so I figure "while I'm in there".
Thanks, dcphotos

I understood it was all the same, except the discs are ventilated (so thicker) and the calipers have a spacer in them for the extra thickness. So it should all function the same, except for less fade when being used a lot.

I don't know if 90's and 110s both used the ventilated type.

AIWorms,
Thanks for the reply but this is why I'm asking people who have actually done the upgrade.
The 110 calipers use the same rotor I have on my D1 from the factory.
If I go with Defender 90 I need the wider caliper and vented (wider) rotor.

My current rotors need replaced so I could go 90 or 110. Either way I need new rotors, calipers and pads.
I've search the forums and find where numerous people have done an upgrade but they don't report on how well it worked.
I have read where pedal travel is affected and even the bias. So that is why I'm asking those that have done it for their feedback.
I could always just get new D1 rotors and pads and call it a day.
Thanks,

90 & 110 calipers have larger pistons; 46mm vs 41mm IIRC, and use a larger brake pad. 90 use a slotted rotor whereas 110 use a solid rotor. I’ve had my 90 rotors get packed full of mud a rocks, so I’d recommend the 110.

Yes
About the same
Yes

IDK that I would throw away perfectly good D1 calipers, but if you need to change them anyways, it’s worth it.

THANKS for that reply.
I've been hoping to hear some feedback from someone who has actually done the "upgrade".
For the most part, all I could find in my searches were people who had done the upgrade but no feedback after.

On my D1, the rotors are what I need to replace. I'd most likely rebuild the calipers if I were to reuse them. I figure in for a penny in for a pound.
Vented or solid rotors cost the same. I need new pads so that's pretty much a push.
All I'm adding to the bill is new calipers, a bit of brake line and the pad hardware.

I do a fair amount of towing as well as off roading. I spoke to Trevor at Rovah Farm and he echoed your advice on not going drilled/slotted rotors.
He did suggest the vented rotors that are NOT drilled/slotted would be a way to go.

Thanks again. Most likely I'll make a decision Monday.

I have done it on my 1999 Discovery 1.

Went with the 110 calipers and pads.

fairly simple and straight forward but you will need a new piece of brake line shaped differently on each side to clear the calipers.

to add to the answers:

yes
same travel
yes

🍻🍺

I upgraded to the 90 front brakes on my 110 haven’t tried them yet but vented over solid is always a win

archeology_student,
Thanks for the reply.
I went with the D90 vented rotor path. The calipers showed up today.
My hat's off to Trevor at RovahFarm. Trevor R O C K S !!!!
Thanks for the feedback on my questions of was it worth doing, that really helps.
I'll post my thoughts once I get her back on her feet.
Thanks,
