Default Did I just get screwed?

Fuel pump died. Took it to shop and to change the internal fuel pump not the assembly cost was $235 labor. Did I just get screwed?

Could you have performed this fix yourself?

Would have been much cheaper to do it yourself obviously and it maybe a bit high but I have heard of worse. Next time something breaks check here first. You could save yourself a ton of money. There is a write up in the how to section that would have walked you through changing out the fuel pump.

I agree. Sounds like a hour or two for labor, that sounds normal for a shop to charge. Depends on what your time is worth.

I have to say yes, that is too much in labor..the D1 fuel pump appears to be the easiest fuel pump in the world to change but I have not changed one yet.

Sounds high to me. All you have to do is remove the rear carpet and pad, then remove the screws holding the inspection plate in place. You unscrew the red plastic ring using a hammer and flat bladed screwdriver. Lift pump assembly out of gas tank.

I put a new fuel pump assembly in mine, right at 100 bucks from RN for the pre-AEL version, a 98 is more due to AEL. Mine had a cracked top piece where the metal fuel lines feed into the top plate.

That is one of the simplest repairs on a Discovery.
