Your OBDII plug is in the drivers side footwell, towards the transmission tunnel IIRC. At least that's where mine hangs since I removed the trim in that area.

Not sure on your alternator.

If your meter is accurate, your alternator is bad. Output voltage is supposed to be regulated, and anything over about 14.4 volts is suspect. One thing that can make volts go high is a bad strap between frame and engine block, that is usually near the starter. For test purposs use a battery jumper cable between (-) negative battery terminal and something bare metal and thick on the block. You can also get a free alternator / battery test at most auto parts stores.

The alternator range is 13.6 to 14.4 volts, anything outside that and you are in trouble.

I paid my "tuition" on the loose ground strap - Motorola two way radio quit, put in another, it quit, put in a third, it quit. Was getting 18 volts to them, loose bolt on frame jumper of a Chevy pickup; radios were about $1000 a piece, back when I made $135 a week. I worked for a very good understanding boss, who later made sure the company paid for my college tuition. Yes, sir, high volts is bad business, smokes amps, radar detectors, fancy stereos, GPS, etc.

You may have to poke around in the driver's footwell to find the plug or drop the access panel that is under the steering wheel. I rerouted mine and wrapped the bundle with friction tape and have it permanently exposed in the footwell for easy access. The PO had pushed it underneath and it was difficult to get to.

I fount the port it was hidden next to the fuse box as for the alternator the batt is showing 16.6 volts with the truck off so i checked my pick up and it had 16.6 volts im thinking its time for a new volt meter. i have had it for who knows how long.

OK, but stil not out of the woods. If a 12.6 battery reads two volts high, you are still at like 16 volts which is way high.

I picked up a GreenLee DMM at Lowe's for about $30 that is pretty good. Even has a ruggedized case.
