Disco 1 5-spd. trailer towing

#4
Hello,
Having towed many types of trailers, from 5th wheels trailers to horse trailers I have only a few words of advice. I assume you already know these, but it's always best to remind myself and others that accidents are always possible, and the chance of accident is higher when towing.
1. Take is easy - Don't be afraid of the slow lane
2. Don't be in a hurry - arrive alive!!!
3. Follow all posted speed limits - I've seen too many trailer accidents due to speeding and failure to understand just how speed affects the trailer being towed
4. Be very aware of wind conditions they do affect your trailer and cause an accident quickly
5. Get a CB (citizens band) radio setup it will help make the trip easier and you can find lots of help from all those truckers on the road/radio... Driving conditions, weather conditions, wind conditions. There are lots of humans trucking accross this beautiful nation of ours
6. Watch your side mirrors and quad check your mirrors when changing lanes. I've seen, and luckily avoided a few accidents due to careless people not checking their mirrors.
7. Watch your temp gauge -
I seriously doubt you'll have much problem towing with your Disco - just take it easy and arrive alive!!
In Peace and Agape...
Trav..

If you're moving to the mountains I'd opt for trailer brakes.
Expect to be slow.
Use engine braking when you can, at least to assist.
I've towed a good bit with my 95 5-speed, including a 6x18 dual axle flatbed (w/brakes) loaded with several yards of gravel and top soil. But it's fairly flat where I am.
