Question Disco 1 : How to install original radiocontrolls ?

Hello everybody !

Happy New Year (with lots of fun when tuning and taking care of your favorite Landrovercar) !

I intent to install the radiocontrols on the sirection binnacle (volume op, volume down, select and next), but...
- will these switches still work with nowadays radios (radio installed in 2013, just for achieving my Disco) ?
- witch wiring loom is needed to connect these 4 switches to radio, tension and lighting (backlight in the switches) ?

I know, it sounds modern not at all, but I love my Disco, such as it was when launched in may 1998.

thanks for guiding me in this matter.

Default Nope...

The binnacle controls are not plug and play with modern radios. If you can read a wiring diagram and work a soldering iron you could do it, possibly, depending on which modern radio you have. But this is not the easy fix you want it to be, this is taking the wiring loom apart and soldering new connections at best.

(Disclaimer: I haven’t looked into this yet )

I actually think this shouldn’t be that hard with enough time and patience. In fact, I’d be really surprised if the controls work all that differently from a D2.

I’ve been thinking about installing a d2 steering wheel in my D1 then wiring up the steering controls for that, so that I can use the buttons on the dash for a winch. II’ll update this thread once I’ve looked at it to see how viable it is.

yup, wouldn’t be that hard at all, so you also have an on/off for the winch running to a solenoid on your dash too?

the fun part would be making the D2’s steering controls work with an aftermarket radio in a D1. I might take a look at it this coming weekend.
