Exclamation Disco 1 Transfer case only works in high unlocked

Hello fellow rovers.
Whenever i try to switch my gearbox out of high unlocked im getting no drive reaction but only get a thump sound and a rev bounce. almost like taking your foot off the accelerator rapidly over and over. i Cannot get the high or low diff locks to eng either. This disco drives and operated great in the standard high unlocked setting. Id like to be able to use these other transfer case features since i live in the mountains and get pleanty of snow. I fear that the transfer case is blown. The transfer case shifter does not put up abnormal resistance to get into these positions and im fairly sure im getting the shifter all the way in position.
any insight would be greatly appreciated

When you shift into low does your light on your dash come on?

First -
Open up the filler on the transfer case and fill it full of oil.
It may be dry.

Putting in oil may bring it back to life.
Then after driving around in HI range you can try LOW again.
Or, the RUST has just corroded the control linkages.

Highly recommend checking the oil asap as jfall said. Most T-Cases leak and eventually run dry like mine did and imploded itself Also there is a clevis pin that connects the linkage to the T-Case that could be broken/bent/missing/rusted which wouldn't engage the remaining positions. Mine was barely holding on when my original T-Case did work and would only engage in High Unlocked.

A lot of us on here use 75/140 in the T-Case without any other additives. Makes for a quiet ride and increased protection against wear.
