Default Transfer case locked or unlocked?

I have a 2000 Discovery II. The transfer case was locked after the front drive shaft was taken out for replacement. I just installed the new drive shaft but are not sure if the case is still locked after I turned a short distance. Is there a way to tell if it is fully locked or unlocked?

Back and to the right is unlocked normal position.
There is a light on the dash that looks like gears, that light should be off.

Mine did not have a light on the dash before. I also had to turn the nut from the top of the transfer case. Is there a way to tell by the way the wheels turn when jacked up? I drove around a couple of days before the person I bought it from called me and said he had locked it before the drive shaft was removed. I could not tell a difference either way.

Turn the CDL nipple full counter clock wise and that will disengage the t/case.
