Default Disco and the art of keeping cool...

I read a reply Savannah made to a post where when the AC is on and he turns the ignition on the electric fans come on. Shortly after I read that, I was leaving in the Disco when it donned on me that I haven't heard mine in a while. Sure enough they aren't working so that is the first thing ill be looking into after work. I do have a question about the operation of the AC though. It is blowing cold and working fine for the most part, the issue is it will periodically just shut off for about 5 or 10 seconds then come back on. Usually when coming to a stop or driving at a steady speed. I know some vehicles have a cut out when you accelerate but this isn't the case with mine. Any thoughts?

The pump normally cycle on and off, or do you mean it completely turns off?

is your blower fan speed set at 4? if so that is why. there is some sort of resistor or such that overheats and shuts off the fan for a few seconds. i'd like to sort this out on mine since we are finally seeing temps in 90's here in stl. there is a fix or work around for this. just not sure where.

Great class, everyone gets an "A" - the switch is prone to shutdown, it gets "dirty", and you can tap it, or remove and clean up. With no fans, when you slow down to a stop head pressure would rise, there is a cutoff switch (it takes out the compressor, but not the fans). Even if you don't hit the head pressure limit the cooling performance drops off.

Now that you mention it, that may be it. I'll have to check but think you hit the nail on the head...

I think "jatutte" answer is the one. It blows cold and seems to be the fan shutting down because when it does kick back on its as cold as it was before it shut off.

What switch and where is it? Might as well be proactive and check and clean it...

The switch you control the fan speed with. It's almost unobtainium for a new one, or it was, but ptschram recently posted they he has them again. They are pricey though.

You could try repairing yours first. Or just run around on position 3. Or just reach up and tap it everyone once in a while... that's what I did on my 96.
