Default Disco key gets stuck in ignition

Every so often the key wont come out of ignition, have to shift it from park to drive a couple of times for it to let me have key back. Can I eliminate this annoying feature. The truck is great don't get me wrong, but some of these little stupid things like ignition lock, shifter lock out are just plain annoying. I only need my brake light switch to do one thing, operate the brake lights. Back to my question can I eliminate this key lock feature?

I think you can, i remember seeing a thread about the stearing lock. Otherwise try graphite powder into the lock to lubricate it,

It's not a matter of it getting stuck do to lube, the shift lock will not allow key to rotate to full off position so they key can be removed. These feature seems to be made with a defect built in. I just want to be able to remove key with no worries of it getting stuck. If any one know of which thread it's in, any help would be appreciated. Couldn't find it myself.

I had this problem. It is a locking mechanism, though I don't know what it's purpose is. If you take the surround off that goes around the lock you will see a little plug on top of the lock cylinder. Unplug it. Be careful with the plastic surround (2 screws in bottom). Somebody over tightened mine and one of the screw bosses broke off. I can't recall it effecting anything else, but if there was something else, it wasn't as important as getting the key out of the ignition.

Your shift cable needs adjustment.
On the gear shift **** is a trim piece right in the middle, pop it out with a small screw driver.
Tighten the nut.
Problem solved.
10min job.

You are not going all the way in park thats why you cant turn the key all the way off.
