Default Disco Rear Lights/Dash Lights/Signals Problems

Hi, I have what seems to be 3-4 separate issues going on with my 1997 DI SE7, based on when they started happening. I have checked all the fuses for everything, and all were good. Some of the things on each circuit are working, and some aren't.

1. Both rear brake lights are out, though the one in the cargo door works. The only pin on the pass side plug that has power is the back up light pin, back up lights work fine. On the driver side the taillight works but not the brake light, on the pass side neither works.

2. The instrument cluster and AC dash lights are out, this happened at a different time and they have come back on once or twice but then went out again. None of the switches around the instrument cluster work, but the power mirrors do. The shifter lights and cruise control lights on the dash work.

3. All of the turn signals stopped working after I had the hazard lights on one day. Fuse looks good so I am assuming it is the flasher unit or a relay somewhere, this one should be a simple fix.

Please help me out with this, I can usually troubleshoot electrical stuff, but it is annoying that certain things work while others don't, and I'd rather not have to rip out the whole interior and follow wires checking at each plug and splice. Thanks a lot, Jon.

Default It's the Blinker Stalk !!!

John,

I had a similar series of events that turned out to be the blinker stalk itself.

My DASH AND BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD WORK ONLY ON THE PARKING LIGHTS (FIRST) POSITION. WHEN YOU TURNED IT TO HEADLIGHTS, THE DASH AND BRAKE LIGHTS DIED.

I posted on here and found it to be the blinker stalk. I could force it further forward and they would work that time, but not next time.

The internal switch parts wear over time. Best price was a used one from Will Tillery @roverguy.com.

Excellent source of used Land Rover Parts at a great price with shipping included in the first price quoted. Best source I have found yet. I always check with Will first. Heis a busy man so know what you are asking for when you call him. He pretty much has just about anything and can tell you quickly if he does not have it.

Quick shipping, goes out of his way to meet your needs if it is something he deals with. I have bought an exhaust mainfold with new metal gaskets, bolts and nuts included, O2 sensors, the little threaded rod and new tie rods to replace one I damaged that does the steering wheel alignment,
and various other items. He's the man to call.

Have fun,

and download the RAVE zipped version, it has the latest and greatest Electrical Troubleshooting Manual that fully documents the wiring as well as the maint and rebuilding manuals on the rest of the vehicle!!!!
