Me too. I could not find an easy way to do it, and I took my D2 seats back to the boneyard and got two passenger seats from D1s. The driver seats are always trashed. The back seat uses different hold downs as well as I recall.

I was able to get a passenger seat to fit on the driver side, and posted about it.

Can't see the link at work but a guy in my local club has D2 seats with the armrests in his D1. Just saw them yesterday. Is there a problem fitting them or something? People swap out seats in D1's all the time. Most often its just a matte rof a couple custom brackets to get them to fit in the seat base rails.

I do know that everytime someone has made a forum inquiry asking if it can be done, multiple people respond with "NO"

 

Talked to the guy that has them. He said cutting and welding were involved and that the transmission tunnel isn't shaped properly. But he's got them in there but it was a major pain.

 

Yup, he wrote back. Cutting and welding. Definitely not a 30 min drop-in job

No problem.

1. cut D2 mounting bases off the motor frame, this will leave you with
a relatively flat surface to work with.

2. 2x2x3/8" T-stock cut to span the width of the rear D1 mounting
platform. Holes drilled to accommodate stock D1 bolts. Weld to D2
seat base so one edge of the T's top contacts the plate that attaches
the F/R screw.

3. 2.5x2x3/8" unequal angle iron, short leg cut down to about 3/4" or
so. Welded to the fronts of each seat rail, cut to protrude 1.75"
from front edge of the D2 seat rail. Drilled to accommodate stock D1
bolts. Some trimming was needed on the inboard welds so the motor
would clear.

4. using the wires cut from the D1 motor assembly w/plug, and the
vehicle-side pigtail cut from the donor, I made a "handshake" to adapt
the D1 wiring to the D2 seats.

5. sit in more comfort!

I am still trying to figure out the seat heaters, the D2 has a funky
box on the seat pan, and the RAVE manual isn't helping me much on what
it does.

ME: Correct me if I am wrong here...

Basically, it sounds like you unbolted a D2 seat then cut off the mounting points, measured and drilled holes matching the D1 floor mounts in pieces of angle iron, welded those mounts to the D2 seat, then bolted it in?

Him: That's about it, I can get you some pics when my phone charges back
up. If you are local, you are welcome to check out the mounts if you
are interested in doing the swap yourself. There is one issue with
the wider D2 seats... when you recline the seat all the way back,
which is absolutely flat into the back seat it will rub on the rear
door grab handle a bit. Other than that, they fit perfectly.

 

hummm.... It might be simpler to just cut the box out of a D2 and fit it onto the D1.

I've modified Sparco seat brackets in the past and I'd rather do it the easy way.
