Exclamation Discovery 1 complete power blackout

Hello everyone,

so I have been driving disco 1 300tdi and everything was great untill this morning when I started to turn on the key. Dash lit up, radio started working, so I waited a few secs and proceeded to turn on the engine (each morning standard routine), and then the fun started: starter kicked in, turned for about half-second and everything went offline. No power, no anything, everything just went dead black. Note, that I drive this car daily and there were no problems literally 8 hours ago which was the last time I started it. And first time until I tried to turn on the engine in the morning everything seemed fine with electronics. Now it's just sitting completely blackout. It just started to turn on and went completely offline, the whole car electrics just gone. Everything seemed to work perfectly fine just a night ago.
Although, for last few weeks it took a bit longer to start in the mornings, but it always started after few seconds of choking and after driving for a while it started perfectly throughout the day. I'm not sure if that can be related as i thought it is just a little bit weak battery, but this is something worse - complete blackout as i tried to start up the car

Will be thankful for anything,
cheers and thanks

To clarify, when you attempt to start it now, do the dash lights and radio turn on?

Is there any activity at all when turning the key?

I suspect your battery and/or starter are dead.

I haven't tried as i had to leave for work, BUT:
as I inserted the key and turned it to pos2 everything was fine - dash, radio etc., but when i turned it to pos3 and starter kicked in, everything went blackout in a second. then nothing happened, could do anything, no response from anything. only the small red light flickered in the dash. Really have no idea what that could be.

Really tough to figure without another crack at it. I'm interested to know if any systems in the truck function when in key POS I or POS II currently.

If they DO function, I'd say the starter solenoid is fried.

If they DON'T function I'd be inclined to check fuses.

FWIW, I'd check fuses in all cases.

Well I hope that that is just an internal battery failure, but nothing functioned in any position. It was just as if everything died within a second - all systems, gadgets, lights etc. Feeling was like something was blown out during that startup that killed off any electrics in the car. I will update as I will get to the car, but until that any theory is hopeful, because I still hope that that might be just a fuse or something similar.

Use a multimeter or voltmeter to check the battery voltage. If there is at least 10 or 11 volts you should see some things showing signs of life. If the voltage is lower, the battery will need to be charged or replaced. If the voltage is at least that high and all lights and instruments are dead then you'll want to look for blown fuses under the hood in the fusebox by the coolant tank, and the fusebox under the steering wheel.

The exact same thing happened to me about 3 weeks ago. My battery was dead. I had the same flickering lights (the red security light too) a bunch of clicking under the dash on the passenger side and nothing else. I changed the battery and all came back to life. My battery was weak also and then it just took a poop finally. I hope that's your case too.

Im very thankful for your replies guys and appreciate that, but the following thing happened:
So I wanted to jumpstart the car from my friends car and as I popped the hood and wanted to attach cables, I slightly hit the battery connector with the cable and everything started to work. The cable was not loose and the bolts were quite thight, but just a slight touch after the car had been sitting for one day brought back everything to life.
These Land Rovers are amazing and they can't be explained.. However, still going to change the battery and check all the battery wiring and connections..
Thanks again guys, these replies might help me in the future!

Check everything connected to the battery, along with the connection to from the alternator. Try to get it resolved soon. Even new batteries can take a hit during the cold months which could compound this issue.
