Default Discovery 1 Project

I have just bought a 1995 discovery van which I spotted abandoned in a field in the Republic of Ireland (see photo), for £400 sterling - Chassis number SALLJGBF7MA121619 Reg number 95-C-1346.

The owner told me that it had a 2.5 perkins diesel engine but it looks like a land rover engine to me. He said all ROI discovery vans for 1994, 95 and 96 were perkins diesel engined.

Does anyone out there know if this is, indeed, the case?

Where are you located currently? Was that vegetation growing thru the engine compartment?

Looks interesting, we recently had a discussion regarding the delivery panel van 2 door like you found. Does the engine have any identifying markings on it?

Tom Rowe (Antichrist) seems to be the most knowledgeable about such issues. I am sure he can offer information when he sees this thread.

And you can download the factory shop manuals, called the RAVE, below, they would include drawings and photos of specific engine parts.

I'm in Newry Co. Down in Northern Ireland. There was minimal vegitation growth through the engine compartment. I now have the disco driving. All I have done to it is given it a preliminary clean up and fitted a new bosch battery. All that I can find wrong with it is no window wipers and no indicators but I seem to have all other electrics. The other thing, and its a big thing, is a serious grumble in the transmission which makes me afraid to take it onto the road. I have driven one and a half miles around the fields and I haven't figured out yet whether the four weel drive, diff-lock etc. are working properly. I am thinking of putting it on a trailer and taking it to a land rover specialist but I don't like spending the money.

could be worth just taking it in and having it inspected.

i know around here that sort of thing usually runs ~$100-$150 and it will at the very least tell you what youre in for.

if they come back with - well it just needs a few grounds cleaned up, a couple new parts here and there and youre set, then you know you should probably keep picking away at it and do it up.

if they come back and say itll new a new engine, new transfer case, new rear end, etc then maybe you can decide whether youve bit off more than you can chew.

could be money well spent, and youre just paying them for their inspection and not to actually fix/replace anything.
