dome light/ fuel light connection
My 96 Discovery has a starting problem that has gotten the better of me. It sometimes would start as quickly with just a bump of the key. At times it would take a little more. Finally it refused to start. The next day it fired right up. After hours of trouble shooting here is what I found, if the dome light comes on it will start, if doesn't come on it won't. If the dome light comes on the fuel pump will run and if it doesn't light up no fuel. With either event all other lights work, engine spins over, plugs fire.... At what point do the share a connection for power? I am just in the dark about this. If I introduce a alternative power source to the fuel pump the dome light comes on and the truck will start.

Sounds like you need to check the fuses for the multi function unit (mfu) it controls all types of things, if it goes you can have crazy stuff happen. When I bought my truck the dome lights didn't work, the rear defrost button locked and unlocked the doors and the rear wiper came on randomly, replaced the blown fuse and all is good
Fuses are all good, the truck starts when it feels like it and refuses to if she doesn't want to. Like I said it spins over like a top, fires the plugs with great spark, but has some strange relationship with the dome light and fuel injection.
