no not the phone.
the software that reads the OBDII - may have a setting that deals with refreshing the sensor information that is displayed

using the car doctor app I managed to get readings on ect and rpms, the free app seems limited but I really wanted to see if the elm was good since it was one of the cheaper ones I saw on ebay, after I tinker around with it i'll get the app walt said he uses, obd fusion, trying to get the gauge display screen but haven't been able to,as I said not really good with this stuff! btw, reading showed temp was around 199f after sitting idleing for about 1/2hr,drove for a short drive hooked up ,some stop and go and temp got to 205-210, is that about right as far as running temp?thanks again for imput

Those temps are on the high side of things. Was a/c on? What was ambient temp?

Stock thermostat is fully open at 190 deg. So that is kinda the low end of the range. Some (including me) have installed at 180 deg t-stat to keep avg temps down. Ideally at idle you'd be mid 190's and at higher RPM the fan should keep things below 200 unless a/c is on and it is hot outside.

So there is where I'd start, a 180 deg t-stat and new fan clutch. I'd also consider a flush of the cooling system if that hasn't been done in a while.

That is about where my '96 with 245,000 mile sits with the A/C on and outside temps in mid 90's.

with A/C and 90 deg temps, you are running about what I'd expect.
