Hi,
I am looking for options to protect the drip/roof rails on a D1. Mine are starting to become brital, some have developed cracks, etc.

Does anyone have any ideas, etc? Has anyone ever coated them with anything?

I was almost thinking a light bed liner type coating but I do not know its that would be possible.

the plastic on the drip rail also covers the seam between the roof and the side panels....my 98 leaked at the seam, so I had to remove the plastic to use body seam sealer to goop the cracks.....of course the plastic rails were useless after that...I got new ones from the dealer and wonder of wonders they werent too badly priced.....seems like they were $20 - $25 each, all good afer that

I have noticed no leaks in the cabin yet but they are showing some cracking on the exterior. I was under the impression it was major surgery to change these on a D1?

Similar in price to what you mentioned, not sure if it D1 or D2 specific.

 

well....no real tip or trick....they are likely brittle and will break....and there's no saving them anyway...so go ugly early and just rip them off. Pick a nice warm sunny day to mount the new ones...they go on pretty easy. While they are off check the seam you will be uncovering you might be able to scrape out some of the old dry sealant and re do that before putting the new ones on...
